October Rage Interview

You won a competition to play alongside Bon Jovi, how was the whole experience?

Absolutely amazing, hundred of bands from NSW signed up to the Triple M run competition and with the help of our fans and LOTS of hard work We came through as the winners! Really owe it all to the fans ya' know! They supported us throughout the once in a life time competition and got us the big prize at the end. As for the shows themselves, the Jovi crew were great. Very welcoming (not to mention, professional)  and really showed us how the big boys do it. Jon and the boys were amazing too, after hearing us play our set Jon invited us to the end of tour party to have beers and a chat with them. Left us feeling very proud and a little overwhelmed when they said we were one of the best bands they have had on the whole world tour!

It’s every bands dream to play to a packed arena and do what they love best – playing music. How did you guys handle the pressure of playing to so many people, many who didn’t know who you guys were?

To tell you the truth we were so fired up to get out there and play that it really didn't allow us time to get a case of nerves or anything! We've always said you practice on the smaller stages as though you are playing on a big one and sure enough, when you get to the big ones it all fits perfectly! One of the main things that support bands have to realize is that most people aren't there to see you and you HAVE to get them warmed up for the main act. The crowd were great with my brother (Nick Roberts) leading them with screams of "Bon Jovi's backstage, they can hear you Sydney!! Show them what you've got!!!"  Makes us so much hungrier for our own packed stadium of fans!.
I got the EP you guys sent me late last year, the end production sounded incredible. What can you tell me about the time spent in the studio? Working with our producer Adrian Hannan really opened our eyes to fresh ideas and how to craft the songs better. As an award winning writer himself, Adrian really showed us how to break down the songs and get the most out of ourselves. Nick did a great job on the vocals considering he had a cracked rib at the time!!

How long did it take to write and record the EP?

The songs were written then play-tested to our fans, then re-written again for probably a few months before we decided they were ready to take to the studio. All in all, we spent a good week in the studio.
Are there plans for another visit to the studio and possibly an album? Yes, in fact we should be in the studio within the next couple of months putting the finishing touches to our debut album! Again we are working with Adrian Hannan, so hopefully the finished product is enough to get your rocks off.

How has the following been for you guys nationally so far?

We have gotten some good press and a horde of local followers but we're actually doing better overseas at the moment! The USA is currently eating it up with radio play and film placements so hopefully we'll be heading over there soon to back it up with a tour.

What’s the next move for you guys to see out the rest of the year?

After the album is finished we will be heading over to the USA to tour, and from there who knows? Possibly Europe, but we'll see how we go.
