Tips & Tricks

Building a website for your band increase promotional appearance Online is definitely an
important part of the mix and that’s where u want to gain heaps of exposure Generally speaking,
you will get exposed elsewhere first and then fans will start to search for you online.

Advice on getting a top manager

a demo cd in the post does not work!!!

In saying that, that’s not stopping people from sending them out, but you should have very low expectations?
Usually people at labels get interested in bands because they're building a buzz and that makes them want to check them out.
So if I were you, I'd focus my energy on trying to build buzz, booking gigs, building a fan base, rather than waiting for that harsh response.

Have an effective CD cover if you want to increase your chances of having your music heard.

Submit your tracks to a community radio!!!

Community radio is a great breeding ground for up-and-coming bands and musicians
They can take more risks than larger commercial stations and so often,
by taking a chance, they find the gold first! Also, as an artist,
they can provide really important media training and a chance to stuff up your first interview without too many people hearing it.

Many bands were 'discovered' on community radio, so it all helps.

When will you need a manager?

When you find yourselves around that time when you’re getting record company interest you'll
need some professional help to find your way through things but, even then, a good lawyer can help a lot.
If you can't get one of the established managers interested then you're often better off with an enthusiastic amateur.

What qualifications do you need, or are helpful to start your own label or manage bands?

A passion for music and the ability to 'infect' other people with that passion,
some business and organizational abilities and the ability to grow some networks of contacts also helps.

What comes first? Gigs, cd distribution, website, manager?

I would say Gig, practice, Gig practice!!!!
Be the best you can be then proceed to take small steps,
Record a cheap demo, then use that demo to land more gigs
then that pays for a better recording, by then your heaps more confident and know what you want.
Submitting to community radio broadcasters and well as triple j, after that then start looking for the manager
everything should flow from there.

GOODLUCK!!!!
